Description

The 1943 Steel Cent is one of the most recognizable wartime issues in American numismatics, struck in zinc-coated steel when copper was needed for the war effort. This Philadelphia example grades an impressive MS67, putting it well into superb gem territory where surface preservation is nearly flawless. The steel surfaces display that characteristic silvery-gray color with smooth, lustrous fields and sharp definition on Lincoln's portrait and the wheat ears reverse. Finding these without the corrosion or spotting that commonly plagues steel cents is tough enough, but locating one this clean at the MS67 level is a real treat. A fantastic piece of World War II history that belongs in any serious Lincoln collection.
